Holsten Zero
Sorry, but when it comes to health, it’s hard to beat the non-alcoholic beers. Imported German pilsner Holsten Alcohol Free may not be the newest booze-free brew on the market, but it has the lowest carb and calorie count, making it a healthier alternative to sugary soft drinks and other sober staples. 8.9 carbs and 40 calories per 330ml bottle.
Burleigh Brewing Co. Big Head No Carb Beer
Who would have thought that Australia’s first full-strength, full-flavoured, no-carb lager was actually born from a small boutique brewer in Queensland? Burleigh Brewing Co’s Big Head Lager is 100% natural, free from additives and preservatives and has been independently tested to substantiate its impressive claims. 0 carbs and 88 calories per 330ml bottle.
Pure Blonde Ultra Low Carb Lager
The first low carb beer on the market has outdone itself with an even lower carb and calorie offering. It may be light on taste, but at least it won’t leave you feeling bloated. 1.7 carbs and 92 calories per 355ml bottle.
XXXX Summer Bright Lager
This is one of the lowest carb and calorie beers on the market with the advantage of being drinkable, too. The fresh summertime lager is crisp, light and dry with a sweet fruity aroma, something not often seen in the sub-100 calorie range. 2.7g carbs and 94 calories per 330ml bottle.
Guinness
While the texture may be thick and creamy, this dark Irish stout is actually lower in carbs and calories than almost every beer in its category. It’s also quite a bit higher in fibre and nutrients. 9.4 carbs and 125 calories per 375ml bottle.
Little Creatures Rogers' Beer
It’s sad but true, the lower the alcohol, the better the beer is going to be for you. And in good news, mid-strength brews are making a comeback, with many offering the full range of rich, craft flavours. One of the best is Rogers’ Beer (3.8% ABV), an amber ale known for its honeycomb colour and aromas of passionfruit and roasted toffee. 11g carbs and 122g calories per 330ml bottle.
Young Henrys and Afends Hemp IPA
Made with hempseed oil, this Young Henrys IPA presents aromas of citrus and stone fruits with biscuit and toasted bread overtones. Research has shown hempseed oil to have wide-ranging nutritional benefits from lowering cholesterol and promoting heart health to easing inflammatory conditions.
Mountain Goat Beer Organic Steam Ale
If you’re into organic, you can now find beers made from fertiliser-, pesticide- and herbicide-free barley, wheat and hops. The original and the best is Mountain Goat Steam Ale, however, you can also find certified organic offerings from Redoak, Barossa Valley Brewing and Pure Blonde.
Feral Hop Hog Pale Ale
Indian and American pale ales use significantly more hops than other beers. While this means more alcohol content, more calories and carbs, it also means higher quantities of polyphenols, which are antioxidant-rich micronutrients, shown to benefit brain and gut health.
Wayward Brewing Co Raspberry Berliner Weisse
This award-winning sour raspberry wheat beer embraces the fresh, natural taste of raspberries, which are added to the brew post-filtration. What’s more, the tart and tangy session beer contains just 3.8% alcohol – you wouldn’t believe it if it wasn’t written on the tin. 10g carbs and 105g calories per 375ml can.
