George Calombaris’ restaurant group placed into voluntary administration
Twelve restaurants and eateries will cease trading immediately, including the newly opened Elektra and Crofter Dining Room & Bar.
Made Establishment Group, headed by former MasterChef judge George Calombaris, has been placed into voluntary administration.
The restaurant group, which was established 13 years ago, includes a number of high-profile restaurants, including Gazi, Hellenic Republic, Jimmy Grants, Elektra, Vita, Crofter Dining Room & Bar, and Hotel Argentina, all of which will cease trading immediately. This excludes his Yo-Chi frozen yoghurt chain, which remains unaffected at this point.
George Calombaris took to Instagram to make the announcement.
“Although we have all continued to work tirelessly and overcome the many challenges we have recently experienced, it is with deep sadness and regret that today Made Establishment has been placed into voluntary administration,” George said.
“On a personal note, the last few months have been the most challenging I have ever faced. At this time, while personally devastated, I remain thankful to my family, friends, the Made team, our loyal and regular customers. I am so sorry all our collective efforts have not proved to be enough. I’m gutted that it’s come to this.”
The collapse follows months of decreased trading, following a highly publicised wage scandal.
To date, all employees have been paid outstanding wages and superannuation.
